Mitchel Kennedy, Rodrigo Talavera Killed in Car Accident in Smith County, TX

Smith County, TX — May 2, 2023, Mitchel Kennedy and Rodrigo Talavera were killed due to a car accident early Tuesday along F.M. 2661.

Authorities with the Texas Department of Public Safety said that the crash happened in the Lake Palestine area off the corner of F.M. 2661 and Highway 31 West.

According to officials, 61-year-old Mitchel Kennedy was in a vehicle traveling southbound along F.M. 2661. 43-year-old Rodrigo Talavera was in a Ford going northbound. For reasons not yet confirmed, the two vehicles crossed paths and collided head-on.

Due to the collision, both Kennedy and Talavera sustained injuries that proved to be fatal. It appears no one else was hurt in the crash, but it's unclear if anyone else was involved at all. Police have yet to report specific factors leading up to the crash. Investigations are ongoing.
