Eugene Hoover Killed in Pedestrian Accident on Eastex Freeway HOV in Houston, TX

UPDATE (May 4, 2023): Officials identified the man killed in the accident as Eugene Hoover. They did not give additional details about the accident.

Houston, TX — May 2, 2023, a man was killed following a pedestrian accident at around 5:20 a.m. along the Eastex Freeway HOV lanes.

Preliminary details released by Houston METRO officials indicated that the incident took place along southbound lanes of Eastex (U.S. 59/I-69) in the area of Aldine Mail Route Road.

According to officials, a driver was going along the freeway when, for reasons not currently apparent, the vehicle caught fire. That driver stopped the burning vehicle and got out on foot. Some time after this, another vehicle passing by struck the man outside of his vehicle. As a result of the collision, the victim sustained fatal injuries.

Authorities have not yet publicly identified the victim. No one else appeared to be hurt. Police say the other driver involved stayed at the scene. They did not report any pending charges or citations. Right now, no additional details are available.
