1 Killed in Alleged Impaired Truck Driver Accident on Loop 202 in Tempe, AZ

Tempe, AZ — April 27, 2023, one person was killed due to a dump truck accident allegedly involving impaired driving at 3:00 a.m. along Loop 202.

Authorities said that the crash happened in a construction zone along eastbound lanes of the highway near McClintock Drive.

According to officials, an SUV was driving eastbound and passing the area at the time. As the SUV passed, authorities believe that a dump truck pulled out of a construction zone and cut off the SUV. This resulted in the SUV crashing into the back of the dump truck. Due to the collision, the driver of the SUV succumbed to fatal injuries.

Right now, there is no mention of others being injured. Police officials allege that the dump truck driver was impaired at the time of the crash. It appears that authorities took the driver into custody. Details regarding specific charges are currently unavailable. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the crash.
