River Cantu Killed in Alleged Drunk Driving Accident in Rockport, TX

Rockport, TX — March 21, 2023, River Cantu was fatally injured by an alleged drunk driver around 10 p.m. on I-35 in Rockport.

Officials report River Cantu was walking along I-35 a few feet south of Balderree Ln. when struck by a southbound Honda CRV. The victim suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash while the two occupants in the CRV were reportedly uninjured.

Authorities have not released where Ms. Cantu was walking in relation to the lanes of traffic. However, reports say the Honda CRV driver refused a breath test and a blood test and that police later obtained a warrant for the blood test.

The toxicology results are reportedly still pending, but police recommended charging the driver with Intoxicated Manslaughter.
