Motorcyclist Injured in Truck Accident on I-26 in Arden, NC

Arden, NC — April 13, 2023, one person was injured after an accident where a motorcycle and a tractor-trailer collided along I-26.

Authorities said that the accident happened in the area of East I-26 near the Airport Road/Highway 280 exit. It appears that two helicopters were traveling along the interstate when a collision somehow occurred involving a tractor-trailer. As a result, one of the motorcyclists had to be flown to a hospital. It's unclear if anyone else was hurt.

Right now, there are no more details about what happened. But my concern is that may not have stopped some people from jumping to conclusions. I can't begin to count how often I see bare-bones reports like this where people automatically assume that the motorcyclist did something wrong. I know from experience that they're usually safe drivers, but too many people have a negative bias that leads them to blame riders without any actual evidence.

Is it possible the victim made a mistake here? Of course. Is it possible some other driver screwed up? Of course. Is it possible this was an unusual situation that couldn't be avoided? Possibly, yes. At the end of the day, the evidence—not some unreasonable bias—should have the last word.
