Two Injured in Semi-Truck Accident on Highway 318 in Marion County, FL

Marion County, FL — April 10, 2023, two people were injured following an accident involving a semi-truck and an SUV along Highway 318.

Investigators said that the incident happened at around 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 441 and West Highway 318. The exact cause of the crash remains unclear at this time. It appears that an SUV and a semi-truck crashed at the intersection, sending two people from the SUV to the hospital with unspecified injuries.

I certainly don't know more about what happened here than what's in the news. But looking at some photos of the crash scene, it seems clear this occurred at a crossing controlled by traffic signals. Does that mean someone ran a light or failed to yield here? Was it due to something like speed or poor judgment? Was someone on their phone? Was this something unusual police don't typically look into on their own? Hopefully steps are being taken to ensure more information comes to light soon, especially if there were serious mistakes that led to this accident.
