Michael Bryan Mackey Injured in Car Accident in Amarillo, TX

Amarillo, TX — November 16, 2022, Michael Bryan Mackey was injured due to a car accident with another vehicle on Washington Street.

Preliminary details given by authorities say that the incident happened at around 3:51 p.m. at the intersection of Washington Street and Canyon Drive/U.S. 60. Authorities said that 47-year-old Michael Mackey was in a Dodge Ram 1500 going southbound along Washington. From eastbound Canyon, it appears a Chevy Tahoe disregarded a stop sign and crashed into the Dodge.

Due to the accident, Mackey sustained apparently incapacitating injuries. No other injuries were confirmed. At this time, no further information is available.

With details like these, this all seems pretty straight-forward—at least, it likely does to most people. But something stood out to me, and I'm wondering if things can be clarified. From these reports, it seems only one person had serious injuries, and they were on the opposite side of the vehicle from the point of impact. So why were they seriously injured when it appears no one else was really hurt?

There are many things which could reasonably explain this disparity, but some of those things can involve manufacturing defects that authorities aren't generally equipped to look into. Could it be something like that happened here, or are there other circumstances authorities simply failed to mention?
