Elifonso Vargas Injured in Truck Accident in Sherman County, KS

Sherman County, KS -- March 18, 2023, Elifonso Vargas was injured following an accident where a semi-truck hit him on the interstate.

Investigators said that the accident happened at around 1:00 p.m. along I-70 near the exit at Goodland. It appears that 48-year-old Elifonso Vargas of Joshua, Texas, was outside of a pickup which had run out of gas. The vehicle was along the westbound shoulder, details say. While by his vehicle, a passing semi-truck somehow hit Vargas.

Vargas was taken to a hospital, and details say his injuries were minor. If true, that seems like a miracle. It's not often you see someone hit by a commercial truck only to walk away more or less okay. But sometimes early news reports don't catch just how serious someone's injuries truly were.

Case in point, I had a case a while back where a man was initially sent home with "minor" injuries after a collision with a commercial vehicle. Days later, however, his sore back became crippling, and he could barely move, let alone go back to work. Further testing showed the collision ruptured a disk in his spine, and he ultimately needed surgery. I'd hardly call that "minor."

That's why I hope everyone is okay here and everything can be sorted out smoothly. While we helped the man in the above example, it was an arduous ordeal I wouldn't wish on anyone.
