Devon Brantly, 1 Killed in Motorcycle Accident in Nicholas County, WV

Nicholas County, WV -- March 16, 2023, Devon Brantly and another were killed following an accident where a motorcycle and a truck collided.

Investigations said that the incident happened at around 3:00 p.m. along Route 19. According to officials, an officer began to pursue a motorcycle they claim had been driving at high speeds. After turning onto Youngs Monument Road, though, the motorcycle crashed with a log truck.

Both riders were thrown from the bike and sustained fatal injuries. One of the riders was identified as 19-year-old Devon Brantly. The other person, a woman, remains unidentified. No further information is confirmed at this time.

Even in situations like the one described here, I feel people need to keep in mind that there's a family out there that deserves answers. These news reports rarely tell the whole story, and I don't see any reason to take these concerning details at face value. That's not to say I think officers are wrong, necessarily, but rather to recognize that I've seen all kinds of things slip through the cracks when investigators don't give a crash the attention it needs. That makes some reasonable skepticism helpful in getting families answers, and a crash where a teenager loses their life certainly isn't going to be an exception to that.
