Three Injured in Semi-Truck Accident on I-71 in Ashland County, OH

Ashland County, OH -- March 16, 2023, three people were injured following an accident where a pickup crashed with a semi along I-71.

Investigators said that the incident happened at around 1:43 p.m. along I-71 in the area of mile marker 188.

It appears that a Ford F-350 service truck was along the side of the interstate by a disabled semi. The Ford was said to have blocked the rightmost lane. There, a box truck crashed into the service truck, then hit the driver of the disabled semi who was outside of the vehicle.

One person in the box truck, the service truck driver, and the semi driver outside of his vehicle were all injured. The semi driver apparently had serious injuries.

Right now, it's not clear what exactly happened here. But there will likely be a few key factors investigators need to look into. Was the service truck allowed to block a lane of travel? Was it clearly visible? Was it there for some time with multiple vehicles avoiding it, or did the box truck crashed into the service truck right as it was moving to block the right lane?

Based on timing, visibility, and the procedures that were or weren't followed, there will likely be an explanation for how all of this could have been avoided. Hopefully authorities are able to dedicate the time and resources to make sure those questions are answered.
