Two Injured in 18-wheeler Accident on I-275 in Tampa, FL

Tampa, FL -- March 13, 2023, two people were injured following an accident where an 18-wheeler and an SUV crashed along I-275.

Initial details about the accident say it happened at around 2:40 a.m. in the area of the interstate and Ashley Drive.

According to officials, traffic was moving along northbound lanes where there was a previous crash. It was said in the news that the semi driver "slammed on his brakes" approaching this previous crash, and the trailer jackknifed, hitting a nearby SUV. The semi then went onto the median where it came to a stop.

Due to the crash, both drivers reportedly had minor injuries. No further information about the crash is available at this time.

While this sort of thing is usually the result of something like distracted driving or speeding, folks shouldn't go jumping to conclusions when they don't know all the facts. There could be unusual circumstances to consider here. But beyond that, it's encouraging that injuries here may have been minor. I just hope that's true.

A while back, a man came to me about a crash that caused "minor" injuries. It turned out he had a ruptured disk that got worse over time, and he ultimately needed surgery. I don't think anyone would consider that a minor injury. But preliminary reports don't always capture everything surrounding a crash—in fact they rarely do. That's why it's important to make sure a crash like this gets the attention it needs until the whole story is clear.
