Two Injured in Van, 18-wheeler Accident on I-77 in Huntersville, NC

Huntersville, NC -- March 15, 2023, two people were injured following an accident where a minivan and an 18-wheeler crashed on I-77.

Authorities say the incident happened along northbound lanes of the interstate near Hambright Road in the afternoon hours of Wednesday.

Right now, the cause of the crash remains unclear. a minivan and an 18-wheeler somehow collided, and images from emergency departments show the front-right end of the van wedged beneath the trailer.

Two people from the van were taken from the scene, one with serious injuries. The details are still under investigation at this time.

From details in news footage showing the crash scene, it would seem this stretch of road is either express lanes going along main lanes separated by a line of vertical posts or it's a split at an interchange. These can be dangerous areas due to people merging between the lanes, sometimes suddenly. Could it be that happened here? Did one of these drivers make an unexpected maneuver? Or could it be something more unusual led to the crash? If nothing else, my hope is authorities are working hard behind the scenes to at least get answers for the victims and families involved.
