Trucker Injured in Gas Tanker Accident on I-81 in Greene County, TN

Greene County, TN -- March 2, 2023, a trucker was injured after an accident where a gas tanker and a tractor-trailer collided on I-81.

Initial details about the crash said that it happened early Thursday morning on northbound lanes in the area of mile marker 26.

It appears that a tractor-trailer was traveling along the interstate while another tractor-trailer hauling a gasoline tank was merging to the right due to traffic from a previous crash. While doing so, the first tractor-trailer somehow crashed into the tanker.

Due to the crash, the tractor-trailer driver had unspecified injuries. It appears the tanker driver was not hurt. No further information is available at this time.

Clearly, there are very few details to go on here. People may see that one vehicle "hit" the other and think that means the driver wasn't paying attention or was going too fast. Those are certainly possibilities, but it's also important to consider that the tanker hit by the victim was merging due to traffic. Did they do so suddenly or without signaling? Did the victim have reason to believe they had space only for the tanker to cut into their lane? Did that truck slam on its brakes? Did any other vehicles not mentioned in reports play a role? Perhaps more details will come to light later on that can help explain these unanswered questions.
