Three Injured in 18-wheeler Accident on I-49 in Lafayette, LA

Lafayatte, LA -- March 10, 2023, three people were injured due to an accident where an 18-wheeler and other vehicles crashed along I-49.

Initial details about the crash say it happened at around 6:15 p.m. along I-49 in the area of East Gloria Switch Road.

Officials did not say what caused the crash. They said only that it involved an 18-wheeler, and at least three people were taken to the hospital. However, I've seen at least one photo showing a semi-trailer with significant front-end damage. Why might that happened?

Most may assume that makes this a rear-end collision, which could then lead them to the conclusion the truck driver was speeding or on their phone. That's possible—common, even—but that's just one possibility. It's possible a vehicle cut off the truck. Perhaps something unusual like brake defects led to the collision. There may have been another reckless driver that left the scene. Likely or not, getting people the help they need means leaving no stone unturned. Hopefully authorities here share that notion.
