Police at this time say that intoxication is a suspected factor in the crash. More information is necessary to confirm if that's true, though it appears charges may be pending.

I'm not here to claim I know something police don't. I'm reading the same reports as anyone. But it's important to keep in mind that these details are still early, and all kinds of things could come to light as investigations continue. Instead of jumping to blame people, it's best to wait for all the facts. Police may have been mistaken, or perhaps there were other contributing factors that are just as significant as if not more so than intoxicated driving.

Did an alcohol provider illegally over-serve the driver? Did seatbelts and airbags function properly? Did something in the road cause the crash? Were any other vehicles involved that left the scene. Whether or not some of these may seem unlikely, I've seen just about every scenario one could think of throughout my career. So until the public is getting all of the facts surrounding this devastating incident, I certainly won't be jumping to any conclusions. I would discourage others from doing so, as well.
