Larry Ryder, Wanda Washington Injured in Truck Accident in Macon, GA

Macon, GA -- March 11, 2023, Larry Ryder and Wanda Washington were injured after an accident where their vehicle crashed with a semi-truck.

Authorities said they responded to the area of Broadway and Flamingo Drive at around 7:00 p.m.

It appears that 72-year-old Larry Ryder and 67-year-old Wanda Washington were both in a GMC traveling northbound along Broadway. Ahead of them, officials say that a tractor-trailer pulled out of a driveway. The GMC then crashed into that tractor-trailer.

Both Ryder and Washington were said to have serious injuries as a result of the crash. No further information about the crash has been released at this time.

When I look up images of this stretch of road, I don't see any driveways where traffic along Broadway wouldn't have the right of way. As such, it seems very likely this crash involved a truck driver pulling out into cross traffic erroneously. Now, maybe there are extenuating circumstances the news left out. For example, if a truck is turning onto a highway, but they have co-workers in the road with high visibility equipment helping to flag down traffic, it could mean the truck driver did everything possible to make the turn safely.

Otherwise, though, was this truck driver not paying attention? Were they impatient? Is there something about this road that makes accidents like this likely to happen? Does this sort of thing happen often in this area? These are just some of the questions a prudent investigator has to ask after a serious commercial truck wreck. It remains to be seen if authorities are working to get those answers for the victims involved.
