Harris County, TX -- March 10, 2023, one person was killed and another was injured after a car accident along Tidwell Road.

Harris County Sheriff's Office investigators say the crash took place at around 7:00 a.m. near the intersection of Tidwell Road and the Sam Houston Tollway.

Officials said that a vehicle going along Tidwell lost control, causing it to collide with an oncoming vehicle. Due to the crash, the driver in the vehicle that lost control sustained fatal injuries. A woman in the other vehicle was taken to a hospital with unspecified injuries.

Right now, authorities say that the driver who crossed over was "possibly intoxicated". Frankly, people shouldn't be so quick to take details like that at face value. It's obviously possible—especially in Harris County where it's a tragically common factor in serious accidents. But sometimes authorities say this because it's just something they're looking into. I've seen plenty of "possibly intoxicated" driving accidents end up involving completely different factors once the facts came to light.

The time at which this crash apparently occurred only makes reasonable skepticism more appropriate, since intoxicated driving isn't quite as common as it is closer to 2:00 a.m. If it turns out that there was an intoxicated driver here, appropriate steps can be taken once the evidence has been properly preserved. Until then, though, it's best folks avoid jumping to conclusions unless they happen to know more than the news has released to the public.
