Trooper Injured in Semi-Truck Accident on I-74 in Ogden, IL
Ogden, IL -- March 8, 2023, a trooper was injured due to an accident where a semi-truck crashed into their cruiser along I-74.
Investigators said that the incident happened at around 2:00 a.m. at the Ogden exit for County Road 2700.

Westbound lanes were being diverted for construction, and a state trooper was in their cruiser with lights activated to help divert the traffic. While there, a semi-truck somehow failed to stop and crashed into the cruiser. The officer was taken to a hospital with unspecified but apparently non-life-threatening injuries. Right now, no additional details are confirmed.
One would think that a cop car with flashing lights behind a bunch of construction barricades would be just about the easiest thing a driver could avoid. Either this is something incredibly unusual that investigators will be scratching their heads over, or it's just a simple case of distracted or fatigued driving. Along with impaired driving, those are the usual reasons a crash like this occurs. There certainly may be charges pursued here, but it's possible that further investigations will show there were problems leading to this that will require more significant action to correct.
