After collisions like this, I tend to see people have the same thoughts: How does a truck rear-end someone without the truck driver doing something wrong? I understand this thought. Most situations like this involve someone on their phone, fatigued, speeding, or following too closely. That said, there are plenty of ways a collision like this can happen, and it's irresponsible to go jumping to conclusions without seeing clear evidence. That's why what is or isn't common shouldn't influence the fact that it's always best to wait for the facts.

At the end of the day, two people lost their lives here. 30 years in this business, and it never gets easier when families come to me during the most difficult time anyone can possibly go through. It's a hardship no one should have to experience. But whether it was due to someone's negligence or some freak, unavoidable occurrence, simply getting them the answers they needed was a huge step forward. That's why I don't jump to conclusions in these situations, and it's why I would discourage others from doing so, as well.

That said, if there are any locals or witnesses that can help shed light on what happened here, any information would no doubt be helpful.
