11 Injured in Delaware State University Bus Accident on I-85 in Dinwiddie County, VA

Dinwiddie County, VA -- February 23, 2023, eleven people were injured due to an accident where a charter bus crashed off I-85.

Initial details about the crash say that it happened 11:15 a.m. along I-85 south. The bus was transporting a bowling team from Delaware State University to a tournament in North Carolina. Sources say that the bus driver was possibly fatigued when the bus ran off-road and overturned.

Due to the crash, eleven people were hurt. Eight were bowlers, one was their coach, another was a staff member from DSU, and the final one was the bus driver. At least five of the victims have since been released from the hospital. The conditions of others remains unclear.

At this time, authorities say the bus driver faces charges for reckless driving and failure to maintain control of the vehicle. No further information can be confirmed at this time. If these accusations turn out to be accurate, then it's pretty damn justifiable to see consequences for what happened here. The fact a bus a driver is tasked specifically with transporting passengers safely makes it ridiculous that fatigue would lead to a crash. So why did that happen?

Was it a driver's inability to manage their time? Did they have a medical condition that made it dangerous for them to take on such a job? Did their employer not provide a relief driver or otherwise ensure they could do their job safely? Has the bus company been involved in similar incidents before? These are just a few questions an experienced investigator should be looking into, and I'm sure the folks involved in this crash would be very interested in hearing the answers.
