Man Injured in Truck Accident on Texas Avenue in Midland, TX

Midland, TX -- February 2, 2023, a man was injured due to an accident where his vehicle crashed into the back of an 18-wheeler.

Preliminary statements from authorities say the incident happened at around 11:27 p.m. along Texas Avenue at Marshall Street.

Police say that a 68-year-old man was in a GMC Sierra traveling westbound on Texas Avenue. It appears an 18-wheeler was improperly parked along the side of the road when the GMC crashed into it.

The man in the pickup had incapacitating injuries. The driver of that vehicle was said to have left the scene of the accident on foot. Police did not identify that person, and they believe alcohol was a factor. They also recommended citations for the semi-truck driver.

I can't confirm or deny anything in these initial reports, of course, but they obviously paint a concerning picture. If it's true someone left the scene, then I have little doubt authorities will be looking for them. I just hope that doesn't distract them from other factors surrounding the victim's injuries. Looking at the road where this occurred, it's no wonder there may be citations for the semi driver. It's a poorly lit, narrow road, and parking a 40 ton vehicle is just asking for someone to get hurt. Whether that's the cause of the victim's injuries or the driver that left the scene—maybe even both—there needs to be far more clear evidence to say for sure.
