James had injuries said to be incapacitating due to the crash. No other injuries were reported. I certainly can't confirm anything further than what's publicly available, and I tend to take early details with a grain of salt anyway. There's no telling where authorities got their information or how far along their investigations are behind the scenes.

Something as simple as the victim being seriously injured, for example, can cause issues. In a situation like that, if the victim is taken away from the scene before authorities can talk to them. Most officers would follow up at the hospital or once the victim is in a position to speak to them, but sometimes that all slips through the cracks. Maybe nothing like that happened here, but I don't see enough information here to believe that this is telling all sides of the story, let alone the victim's.
