Two Injured in Van, Truck Accident on US 24 in Roanoke, IN

Roanoke, IN -- February 14, 2023, two people were injured following an accident where a van and a truck crashed on US 24.

Details provided by Huntington County officials say the incident happened early Tuesday at the intersection of US 24 and East 900 N.

It appears that the collision occurred as a van was turning onto US 24. While that occurred, details say that a service truck went "through the light," and the vehicles collided.

As a result of the collision, both drivers were injured. Police have said only that they're looking into nearby security footage to help determine what happened. Even that detail alone is an encouraging sign. It no doubt seems obvious to look for that kind of thing, but it would surprise folks to see what can slip through the cracks.

Not long ago, I handled a situation similar to what's described here. The officer in that case was too busy, I suppose, and said they couldn't make heads or tails of what happened. Next thing you know, we get the case, and we find a security camera across the street that caught the whole thing on video.

There may still need be further efforts beyond just looking for security cameras, but I do find comfort knowing this crash is the hands of someone who at least knows to do the bare minimum. Hopefully they won't end their efforts there.
