Joseph Hernandez Killed in 18-wheeler Accident in Freestone County, TX

Freestone County, TX -- January 21, 2023, Joseph Hernandez was killed following an accident where his vehicle and a semi-truck crashed.

Officials said that the incident happened just after midnight along I-45 near mile marker 207. It appears that 21-year-old Joseph Hernandez was in a Ford F-150 traveling southwest along the interstate. While doing so, the pickup somehow went off-road, then swerved back onto the highway where it collided with a tractor-trailer.

Hernandez ultimately succumbed to fatal injuries due to the crash. No one else was said to be injured. Right now, the exact cause of the crash remains unclear.

My concern when there isn't much information about a fatal truck wreck is whether or not authorities know more than they're telling the public. It's not that I feel somehow entitled to information about a crash that has nothing to do with me. Rather, I've seen too many situations like the one described here where a lack of information was directly reflective of how much police actually knew.

The fact of the matter is 18-wheeler wrecks are incredibly challenging, and important details can easily slip through the cracks if investigators don't have the time or equipment to properly look into them. So if authorities are just withholding what they know but telling the family everything they need to hear, then that's good. Otherwise, it's possible there are still unanswered questions about how a man lost his life. I shouldn't have to explain why a grieving family would deserve better than that.
