Luisa Robles, Others Injured in Transit Bus Accident in Elizabeth, NJ

UPDATE (March 14, 2023): Recent information added to the story of the transit bus crash with the cement truck. Estimates now say approximately 25 people were injured due to the crash. One of the victims was identified as Luisa Robles, a bus passenger whose current condition is unspecified.

It also appears authorities cited three drivers in the crash: the bus driver, the cement truck driver, and the driver of another truck also involved in the crash. While reports say the bus driver was cited for following too closely, they don't specify the other citations filed. There is still some suggestion the bus may have been cut off, though, so I can't help wondering if the bus driver really was following too closely. If someone cuts into the path of a large vehicle like that and stops short, there may not be any time to adjust one's following distance. Even this long after the crash, it seems there may be more information yet to come to light here.

Elizabeth, NJ — February 14, 2023, several people were injured when a transit bus collided with a cement truck on the New Jersey Turnpike.

Authorities report that the New Jersey public transit bus was headed northbound around 7:35 a.m. when it collided with a cement truck for unknown reasons on the New Jersey Turnpike. A bus passenger reportedly told investigators an 18-wheeler cut the cement truck off and triggered the crash, but that has not been confirmed.

On-site responders used the Jaws of Life to get the trapped passengers out of the bus. At least nine of the 32 passengers and the bus operator were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash is still under investigation. No further information is currently available.
