Fernie Favela Killed, Teen Injured in Car Accident in El Paso, TX
El Paso, TX -- November 7, 2022, Fernie Favela was killed and a teenager was hurt after an accident where the vehicle they were in crashed.
Investigators said that the incident happened just after 10:00 p.m. along Missouri Avenue near Ochoa Street.
According to preliminary details, 22-year-old Fernie Favela was in a Saturn car traveling westbound along East Missouri Avenue. For reasons unconfirmed, the vehicle lost control and veered into a guardrail. The crash was severe enough that Favela sustained fatal injuries. A 17-year-old girl riding as a passenger was said to have non-incapacitating injuries.

No further information is available at this time, though authorities mentioned there were witnesses to the crash. They also claim that the car was going at a "high rate of speed". Put simply, when I see details like these, I take them with a grain of salt. Why is that?
There's nothing specific I know that isn't available to the public which makes me think these accounts are wrong. On the contrary, it's the fact that I don't see any more evidence which makes me avoid jumping to conclusions. Knowing the facts means more than witness statements, assuming that is what these claims were based on. It involves reconstructing the crash scene, analyzing debris patterns, checking medical records and maintenance history, analyzing a car for potential manufacturing defects, searching nearby properties for video footage, understand the condition of the road both at the time of the crash and in general (there could be issues with the roadway locals have concerns about, for example).
Without all of that, anyone saying they know what happened here likely is missing something. Maybe authorities already covered all of this behind the scenes and have been able to give the victims' loved ones clear answers. If they have, that certainly isn't apparent in these early reports.
