California Woman Killed in Truck Accident off Roosevelt Road in St. Cloud, MN

St. Cloud, MN -- February 13, 2023, a California woman was killed following an accident where a truck hit her in a parking lot.

Authorities said that the accident happened at around 6:00 p.m. in a parking lot off the corner of Roosevelt Road and 40th Street.

Initial details about the incident say that the unidentified woman, a 43-year-old from California, was walking in the parking lot at the time. While doing so, a truck was backing into a parking space. Somehow, the driver failed to notice the victim, running her over.

Due to the collision, the California woman sustained fatal injuries. Additional details about the incident are unavailable at this time, but authorities said they do not suspect drugs or alcohol. Whether or not the incident was avoidable, though, is going to depend on many different possible factors.

For one, it's not clear exactly where this occurred from public information. There are many kinds of businesses on this stretch of road, so it's about as likely that both the victim and the driver were unrelated visitors as it is that one or both of them were working at the time. Were they working for the same business? Was one a worker at the location and the other there to pick something up or drop it off? Was the woman simply minding her own business, and she had a reasonable expectation she wouldn't be in danger? Has this sort of thing happened on this property before? Are there issues with this lot which unnecessarily impede a driver's vision or a pedestrian's ability to walk safely?

There are just so many different possibilities, many of which I bet the average person hadn't even considered. Whether this is as simple as someone being on their phone or as complex as property defects, the victim's loved ones deserve answers. Hopefully authorities are working behind the scenes to get them a more satisfactory explanation than the current public information offers.
