Police have not yet said what caused the crash, and I can only hope they're giving the crash the attention it deserves. There is never a shortage of headlines like this coming out of the Houston area on a nearly daily basis. If nothing else, it means that an already busy police department has to find time to handle all of these serious accidents. How do departments handle such a work load? Well, a lot of the time, they do so by letting some crashes slip through the cracks.

Without enough manpower and time to give each crash the attention it needs, authorities may not be able to ensure the victims and families involved are getting the full story. That's one of the reasons authorities themselves and those like me often rely on independent accident reconstructionists who can dedicate time to a complex crash which authorities may not otherwise be able to give. Whoever handles this crash, my hope is they're able to ensure nothing important slips through the cracks.
