Desmond Gomes Killed in Motorcycle, Truck Accident in Hope, NJ

Hope, NJ -- February 11, 2023, Desmond Gomes was killed due to an accident where a motorcycle and a truck crashed.

Preliminary details about the crash said the incident happened in the area of Hope along Route 80 near mile marker 11.

It appears that 32-year-old Desmond Gomes was on a motorcycle traveling westbound when, for reasons unclear, a tractor-trailer crashed into the back of the motorcycle. Gomes was seriously injured and ultimately succumbed to his injuries. No other injuries were reported.

Beyond that, there is no clear information available. Frankly, there aren't many scenarios in which a truck rear-ends a motorcycle where the truck driver didn't make some kind of serious mistake. That's not impossible, of course, so I would discourage anyone from jumping to conclusions without knowing all the facts. I just hope authorities here are more prudent than some I've dealt with who see a motorcyclist and just assume the victim was doing something irresponsible. Regardless of what happened here, it's important to let the evidence speak for itself, and letting bias get in the way is just asking to let something important slip through the cracks.
