Cynthia McGinnis Injured in Auto Accident on Rusk Street in Jacksonville, TX
Jacksonville, TX — September 15, 2022, 58-year-old Cynthia McGinnis was seriously injured in an auto accident on Rusk Street in Cherokee County.
Authorities say the incident happened around 12:12 p.m. on the 400 block of West Rusk (US-79) at Zimmerman Drive. Preliminary investigation suggests a Ford Escape was stopped on northbound Zimmerman at Rusk as McGinnis drove a Kia Sorento east in the outside lane of Rusk. Investigators say the Ford driver proceeded but failed to yield and the Escape crashed into the passenger side of the Kia.
McGinnis suffered injuries described as "major" in the crash and was taken by EMS to a hospital. No one else was transported from the scene.
No further information is currently available.
The basics of this accident, while unfortunate, seem pretty straightforward. However, the injuries that followed the collision aren't. If the northbound SUV was only just starting forward from a stop and hit the passenger side of the other vehicle, how was the eastbound driver seriously injured?
Don't get me wrong: I'm glad no one else took similar damage. I just don't understand how the person farthest from the point of impact—who reportedly had her seat belt on—had to be rushed to a hospital while everyone else got out more or less unscathed. Unless there was something unusual involved or public information is missing some pretty major details, this looks on paper like a crash the injured driver should have walked away from too. What kept that from happening?
