Lazaro Resendiz Killed in Hit-and-Run on I-20 Service Rd in Midland, TX

Midland, TX — February 8, 2023, 51-year-old Lazaro Villafuerte Resendiz was fatally hit by an unknown vehicle off East Interstate 20 in Midland.

Authorities say the incident happened around 7:30 p.m. on the 1900 block of the East I-20 service road. Preliminary investigation suggests Resendiz pulled onto the side of the road and left his Ford pickup running while he exited to retrieve a block of wood from the lanes. He was then reportedly struck by a vehicle of unknown make and model that left the scene without stopping.

Resendiz suffered life-threatening injuries in the collision. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation continues. No further information is currently available.

It's terrible to see another hit-and-run on Texas roads, yet it seems more of them show up in the news every day. I doubt I'll ever understand what goes through someone's mind when they leave a hurt victim behind, but no excuse they come up with justifies their choice. That's why it's so important that authorities find and apprehend them so they can answer for what happened.

What police are hopefully doing now—searching for material evidence, asking for witnesses or anyone with information to contact them, looking for video footage from businesses or traffic cameras, etc.—is crucial for finding helpful clues. Any new developments they can relay to the public are more pieces of the puzzle that someone may put together to recognize a suspect. It may take time, but I'm hopeful that if everyone cooperates someone will answer for the loss of a man's life.
