Vilma Gomez Injured in Car vs. House Accident on Rosewood in Odessa, TX

UPDATE (February 15, 2023): The woman injured in this accident has been identified as 53-year-old Vilma Gomez.

Odessa, TX — January 28, 2023, a woman was injured and a driver faces charges after an accident where a car hit a house on Rosewood Avenue.

Officials said that the victim was a passenger in a white Cadillac that was going along Rosewood. The driver apparently ran off-road and crashed through the side of a home. Statements say the driver then left the scene, but they have been arrested.

The woman in the Cadillac had injuries due to the crash. The driver was allegedly drunk and had been drinking at a local establishment prior to the crash. He faces charges for driving while intoxicated as well as accident involving injury. No further information can be confirmed at this time.

Some outlets list an establishment that the driver was drinking at, and I hope authorities are following up on that detail. In Texas, businesses can be responsible for contributing to crashes like this if it's found they over-served the driver. Looking at public TABC records, it appears the business was on their radar at least twice in recent years for allegedly over-serving an intoxicated person. While there were no confirmed violations, it's worth considering whether this is the unluckiest business in Midland-Odessa or if they've been getting away with mistakes that inevitably led to someone getting hurt.
