One Injured in Car Accident on Kiest Boulevard in Dallas, TX
Dallas, TX — May 23, 2022, one person was seriously injured in an auto accident on Kiest Boulevard in Dallas County.
Authorities say the incident happened around 4:40 p.m. on the 4400 block of West Kiest at Cockrell Hill Road. Preliminary investigation suggests a Buick Verano was westbound on the roadway when the driver made a left turn at the Cockrell Hill intersection. At the same time an eastbound Ford Fiesta started to pass straight through the intersection and hit the turning Buick on its passenger side.
The Buick driver was seriously injured in the crash; the Ford driver received minor injuries.
Both drivers told investigators they had the right-of-way; the Buick driver claimed to have a steady green arrow when he turned and the Ford driver said he had a green light to proceed through. Officers were unable to verify who was at fault.
No further information is currently available.
Authorities don't seem to have figured out which of these drivers had the right-of-way and their conflicting stories made it impossible to resolve at the scene. A few months down the road I hope they sorted it all out, but frankly it wouldn't be the first time I saw situations like this stuck in limbo.
Not long ago I had someone come to me after a truck hit them as it ran a red light. The truck driver had other ideas, though, and blamed the victim instead. The officer put in charge of that investigation had other priorities pulling him away, so he essentially threw up his hands and said "you two figure it out." The victim got in touch with once it was clear the truck driver wouldn't budge; fortunately, it didn't take long for us to find nearby security footage that proved the truck ran the red.
Whatever really happened on Kiest Boulevard, I hope authorities gave it more time and attention than the irritable officer did in that previous incident. Otherwise there may still be issues surrounding this crash left unaddressed.
