UPDATE (February 7, 2023): Authorities have identified one of the two people killed in this accident as 26-year-old Sergio Torres Hernandez. Hernandez' wife Yarelis Martinez, a passenger in the struck Toyota, was seriously injured in the crash. The motorcyclist who died has not yet been identified.

Fort Worth, TX — February 4, 2023, two people died in a collision between a car and a motorcycle on Interstate 20 in Fort Worth.

Authorities say the incident happened just before 10:30 p.m. on eastbound I-20 near McCart Avenue. Preliminary investigation suggests a Toyota sedan was rear-ended by another car on the highway. Both vehicles pulled over and the struck car's male driver exited to exchange insurance. Moments later a motorcycle, allegedly speeding and changing through multiple lanes, crashed into the Toyota and its driver.

The struck driver and the motorcyclist both suffered fatal injuries.

The investigation is ongoing. No further information is currently available.

I can't speak to the accuracy of reports about what happened here, but I think just about everyone would agree this is a heartbreaking situation. Some may have been too quick to say the motorcyclist did something wrong that led to him hitting the previously-crashed vehicle, but it's important to realize that nobody has the full story here yet. Absent clear facts backed up by evidence it's important not to jump to conclusions or point fingers. The rider's loved ones likely have urgent questions of their own, so a careful and thorough investigation is clearly in order to help everyone get the answers they deserve.

Whether the public ever learns more about what happened here, the people hurt in the crash and the families who lost loved ones should have any and every fact possible. I hope that's what authorities find for them before all is said and done.
