Four Teenagers Injured in Single-Vehicle Accident on Staples Street in Corpus Christi, TX

Corpus Christi, TX -- April 21, 2022, four teenagers were injured due to an accident where the vehicle they were in crashed off Staples.

Preliminary details from authorities say the incident happened at around 9:35 a.m. along Staples Street near Mustang Trail.

It appears that four teenagers were in a Nissan Versa traveling westbound on Staples. The vehicle somehow lost control, and it veered left across all lanes, went off-road, and hit a pole.

Three of the occupants of the Nissan had non-incapacitating injuries while a fourth was said to have incapacitating injuries. The cause of the crash was not confirmed.

I often discuss the complexity of single vehicle wrecks and all the possible ways drivers can fall victim to factors entirely beyond their control. Unfortunately, I find any prudence I've imparted on those who will listen flies out the window when the crash involves a teen driver.

Simply put, people see a teenage driver and immediately assume they did something wrong. Yes, they are statistically more likely to make mistakes, but that's not an excuse to jump to conclusions. They deserve as much benefit of the doubt as anyone behind the wheel until the evidence can speak for itself. I see no reason at this time why this accident would be an exception to that.
