One Killed, One Injured in Crash with 18-Wheeler on US-60 in Brandenburg, KY

Brandenburg, KY — January 30, 2023, one person died in a collision with a tractor-trailer on U.S. Highway 60 in Meade County.

Authorities say the incident happened around 6:50 a.m. on US-60 at Hill Grove Road. Preliminary investigation suggests only that a car and an 18-wheeler collided in the area, causing fatal injuries to the car's driver. A passenger in the vehicle was transported to an area hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries and the truck driver was unhurt.

The investigation continues. No further information is currently available.

It's certainly not clear yet what happened here, but one thing I've learned over the years is that people don't always need a lot of details or a clear fact pattern to start speculating. As always, I try to discourage that sort of guesswork in place of allowing just facts and evidence to tell the story. As things stand any number of factors—some within the drivers' control, many others out of it—could have played parts, and all of them must be carefully evaluated to be sure the whole story is learned.

At the end of the day this accident took someone's life and sent another person to the hospital. I doubt I'm alone in feeling that's more than enough reason to investigate it thoroughly. I expect those people's loved ones have some urgent questions that need and deserve answers, so I hope that's exactly what authorities will bring them.
