Lloyd Garza Injured in Single-Vehicle Accident on San Augustine St in Deer Park, TX

Deer Park, TX — January 8, 2023, 70-year-old Lloyd Garza was seriously injured in a single-vehicle accident on San Augustine Street in Harris County.

Authorities say the incident happened around 7:40 p.m. on San Augustine near Oklahoma Avenue. Preliminary investigation suggests Garza was driving a Nissan Frontier east on the roadway when his vehicle went out of control for unconfirmed reasons. It struck a curb and a light pole, then rolled multiple times and caught fire.

A witness pulled Garza out of the burning vehicle and stayed with him until responders arrived. Garza was then transported to an area hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

No further information is currently available.

It doesn't seem like investigators could definitively say why the victim's vehicle left the road. It could have happened for many reasons, of course, but while many explanations are entirely out of a driver's control people tend to lean more toward the ones that are in it. I've lost count of the crash victims I've seen blamed for inattention or impairment, only for evidence to later show there was little or nothing they could have done to prevent their accidents.

So is it possible the wreck in Deer Park has a simple explanation or was caused by a driver mistake? Maybe. Could there also be far more to the story, though? Absolutely. That's why it's always crucial to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure nothing important slips through the cracks. The victim deserves no less, so I hope that's what authorities plan to do.
