Two Killed in Semi-Truck Accident on 10 Freeway in Riverside County, CA

Riverside County, CA -- January 30, 2023, two people were killed after an accident where two semi-trucks and an SUV collided on the 10 Freeway.

Officials with the California Highway Patrol said the crash occurred east of Indio along the 10 Freeway near Hayfield Road at around 4:15 a.m. For reasons which are not yet clear, an initial collision occurred involving an SUV crashing into the rear portion of a big rig. Some time after this, another semi hit the disabled SUV.

Two people from the SUV, unidentified at this time, died due to the crash. Right now, additional details are unavailable.

In a chaotic series of events like this, one of the primary concerns is simply whether or not its getting enough attention. A commercial truck wreck is difficult enough without it happening in the early hours of the morning, involving two commercial trucks, killing two people, and bursting into flames. To say the least, that's an incredibly chaotic and challenging scene even with the right tools. If authorities don't dedicate the moist experienced and well-equipped officers as possible, there's no telling what could slip through the cracks.

GPS and cell phone data, road markings, debris analysis, medical records, examination for defects, hours of service logs, visibility of the victims' disabled vehicle—these are just a few important details to look into I can think of off the top of my head. My hope is authorities are hard at work behind the scenes getting the victims' loved ones answers that will at least leave them certain they're getting the whole story.
