Cornelius Lee Johnson Injured in 18-wheeler Accident in Red Oak, TX

Red Oak, TX -- January 21, 2023, Cornelius Lee Johnson was injured due to an accident where his vehicle and an 18-wheeler collided.

Investigators said that the accident happened at around 7:30 a.m. along I-35E near mile marker 409.

According to initial information, 21-year-old Cornelius Lee Johnson was in a Nissan Altima traveling southbound along the interstate. It appears his vehicle had a tire blowout, causing the car to veer into a nearby 18-wheeler.

Johnson sustained incapacitating injuries in the crash and was apparently the only one injured. Some may think that's all there is to know, and maybe it is. Tire blowouts aren't always avoidable. It's not like the driver can see a nail from 100 yards out. But as simple as tire blowouts can be, they can also be incredibly complex.

Manufacturing defects, for example, have caused deadly wrecks before, and they no doubt will again. It's up to investigators to have the tools and experience to consider all of these possibilities so nothing slips through the cracks. My hope is authorities did just that and got those affected by this crash answers about what happened.
