Matthew Drake Foss, 3 Injured in Car Accident in Sherman, TX

Sherman, TX -- July 7, 2022, Matthew Drake Foss and three others were injured after an accident where two vehicles collided.

Initial details about the accident said that it happened at approximately 3:43 p.m. along Travis Street at Park Avenue.

It appears that 21-year-old Matthew Drake Foss was in a Chevy Impala traveling westbound along Park. At Travis, a northbound pickup crashed into the side of Foss's vehicle.

Due to the crash, Foss and a passenger had incapacitating injuries. Another passenger and the driver of the pickup were said to have non-incapacitating injuries.

There isn't much information confirmed surrounding the crash, and it's important to remind people why a crash like this can be so complex even for the authorities. People see a car wreck and they figure, "Police handle hundreds of those, so what's one more?" Well, the fact car accidents are so common actually works against the capability of police to handle them all adequately.

Simply put, not every department provides the time, tools, or training needed for a proper accident reconstruction. Officers can be very skilled—many are—but they're only as good as the resources made available to them. That's why when things like mechanical issues, road hazards, missing signage, medical conditions, product defects, and other unusual situations occur, it's usually independent investigations keeping them from slipping through the cracks.

I certainly can't say what did or didn't happen here, but I also don't see any reason it shouldn't get the same level of prudence as any other serious wreck. Hopefully the local authorities were able to give the crash the attention it deserved.
