Burks was said to have incapacitating injuries due to the crash. At this time, additional details about the crash are unavailable.

One of the most challenging things with single-vehicle wrecks is simply making sure they got the attention they need. I've seen all kinds of unusual factors cause someone to lose control—medical conditions, tire defects, mechanical issues, road hazards, and even other drivers who left the scene. Yet many of those situations were initially written off as a driver being reckless just because people assumed the driver was on their phone or speeding.

It's entirely possible those sorts of factors happened here, but that doesn't excuse overlooking other possibilities, likely or not. I know that officers in Houston are skilled when it comes to accident reconstruction, but they're also immensely busy. My hope is they were allowed the time they needed to get clear answers about what happened here.
