One Injured in Crash with Tractor-Trailer on N 29th Avenue in Hollywood, FL
Hollywood, FL — January 26, 2023, one person was injured in a collision with a tractor-trailer on 29th Avenue in the Hollywood area.
Authorities say the incident happened around 8:00 a.m. in the area of North 29th and Greene Street. The cause and circumstances of the wreck aren't clear yet, but reports say a sedan collided with a semi-truck's trailer with enough force to tear the car's roof off.
Firefighters extricated the car's driver and transported them to an area hospital as a trauma alert. No other injuries were reported.
The investigation continues. No further information is currently available.
One thing that sticks out to me here is that footage of the scene seem to show the big rig was turning northward onto 29th from eastbound Greene, which means it blocked the southbound lanes while turning. The footage also shows the car pointed south as rescue workers extracted its driver.
I'm the first to suggest caution and an open mind while the facts are still being put together, but traffic on Greene has a stop sign and vehicles on 29th don't. If the truck driver failed to yield to the victim before turning, which is what those images suggest, that's something that certainly needs addressing.
To be clear, I don't know more than preliminary reports can say about what happened—which isn't much. However, video is usually one of the clearest and hardest-to-dispute sources of information about an accident and the Hollywood footage seems to tell a particular and troubling story. Hopefully authorities will see that as well and steps will be taken to get the victim the answers and help they deserve.
