Ashley Cruz Injured in Car Accident in Missouri City, TX
Missouri City, TX -- January 14, 2023, Ashley Cruz was injured due to an accident where a possibly intoxicated driver hit her vehicle.
Officials said that the accident took place at around 7:53 p.m. along Highway 6 at Vicksburg Boulevard.
It appears in the initial public information that 33-year-old Ashley Cruz was in a vehicle traveling along Vicksburg and attempting to turn left onto Highway 6. Doing so, a Toyota Tacoma on the highway went through a red light, police say, hitting Cruz's vehicle.

Cruz had incapacitating injuries as a result of the crash. The Toyota driver was said to be under the influence of alcohol at the time and may face charges. Additional details are unavailable at this time.
If the allegations here are true, then obviously the right thing to do would be to ensure the drunk driver has their day in court. But it's important folks don't just assume that's the end of the story. These crashes can involve other complex factors, such as negligent alcohol providers.
Not long ago, a family came to me after a drunk driver hit their car head-on and injured their young son. When we retraced his steps, we found that he'd been drinking at a nearby bar where he became extremely intoxicated—he could barely walk to the bathroom without almost falling on his face. But the bar staff continued to pour drinks. In Texas, that's illegal, and it can open a business up to all kinds of consequences, including, for example, administrative penalties and liability under dram shop law.
There certainly isn't enough information here to say that was a factor, but there is more than enough information to make it worth looking into. The questions is whether or not the authorities decided their work ended once they had someone to blame.
