One Seriously Injured in Crash with School Bus on US-62 in Terry County, TX
Terry County, TX — October 15, 2022, a 31-year-old man was seriously injured in a multi-vehicle crash involving a school bus on U.S. Highway 62 in Terry County.
Authorities say the incident happened around 11:45 a.m. on US-62 at David Bailey Road. Preliminary investigation suggests a Ford F-150 was traveling southwest on the highway as a school bus was headed northeast in the opposite lane. Investigators alleged the pickup driver turned left toward eastbound David Bailey but failed to yield to the bus; the two collided in the highway's travel lanes.
After the impact the pickup rolled into the median and came to rest on its side. The bus ran off the side of the road into a ditch, vaulted briefly over a culvert, then landed and came to rest upright.
The Ford driver was seriously injured in the crash. Four adults and several teenagers aboard the school bus reportedly received minor injuries.
Investigators alleged the Ford driver was under the influence of alcohol and collected blood specimens for testing.

People sometimes take preliminary reports about a crash as all there really is to know, but it's important to realize that a few sentences jotted down about what officers found at the scene isn't the same as a comprehensive account of a wreck's events. Even if officers suspect impairment was an issue in Terry County, did they find out whether there's any more to the story? For instance, was anything wrong with the pickup that kept it from stopping? How fast was the bus traveling? If blood tests show alcohol was a factor, was the victim illegally over-served somewhere? Those are just a few of the blanks not yet filled.
All I'm really getting at here is that things aren't always as simple as they seem, no matter what kind of first impressions police get. Any accident victim, even someone who's suspected of causing it, deserves to know no stone was left unturned in pursuit of the whole story. I hope authorities' efforts in Terry County provide that confidence.
