Angela Galicia, Jesus Trevino Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash on FM 106 in Harlingen, TX
UPDATE (January 24, 2023): The two people killed in this accident have been identified as 28-year-old Angela Galicia and 65-year-old Jesus Trevino.
Harlingen, TX — January 20, 2023, two people died and four were injured in a multi-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck on FM 106 in Harlingen.
Authorities say the incident happened around 2:20 p.m. in the area of 25340 FM 106 near FM 509. Preliminary investigation suggests a tractor-trailer was eastbound on the roadway when the driver lost control and the big rig jackknifed in the travel lanes. Three vehicles then crashed into the truck as it blocked the road.
Two fatalities were reported after the accident. Three other people were transported to an area hospital with unspecified injuries.
Reports indicate the truck driver was arrested on potential manslaughter charges.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who still has a great many questions about this wreck, including the big one so often asked after reading a vague news release: "How did this happen?"
There's a lot of different ways to answer that question, but as always it's important those answers be based on careful investigation rather than speculation. The driver's reported arrest may make some quickly assume he just did something wrong, and further investigation might conclude the same, but only clear facts and evidence should really tell the final tale. Investigators must look at evidence from the scene, the trucker's medical, driving, and phone records, the truck's maintenance history, dashcam and cab-cam footage, and many other sources of information to be sure they have the whole story of how it ended up blocking the lanes of FM 106.
I think most would agree that the deaths of two people and the hospitalization of three others are more than enough reason to investigate carefully and work out not only what happened, but also how and why. Everyone affected by the accident deserves as many clear answers as possible, so I hope that's exactly what authorities bring them by the time all is said and done.
