Driver Injured in Single-Vehicle Accident on Pan American Drive in Livingston, TX

Livingston, TX — August 12, 2022, a 44-year-old man was seriously injured in a single-vehicle accident on Pan American Drive (US-59) in Polk County.

Authorities say the incident happened around 6:05 a.m. on South Pan American near Farm to Market Road 1988. Preliminary investigation suggests a Dodge Ram pickup was traveling south in the outside lane of the road when it entered a curve. The driver allegedly told investigators he fell asleep and the truck ran off the road to the right, where it glanced off a light pole and then crashed into a fence. It passed through the fence and hit the side of a building on the property, then came to rest partially inside the structure.

The driver was seriously injured in the crash.

No further information is currently available.

I just want to be clear up front that I don't know anything about this crash beyond what authorities told the public; maybe they got all their ducks in a row and everyone is satisfied with the information they provided. However, in my experience many serious wrecks like this have details that don't get the careful attention they deserve and the whole story is never really learned. Maybe nothing like that happened in Livingston, but are the few details in preliminary reports really all there is to say?
