Alexis Ivey, Randall Hill Injured in Single-Vehicle Crash on Saturn Rd in Garland, TX
Garland, TX — October 7, 2022, Alexis Ivey and Randall Hill were seriously injured in a single-vehicle accident on Saturn Road in Dallas County.
Authorities say the incident happened around 9:10 p.m. on the 1400 block of Saturn Road near Northwest Highway in Garland. Preliminary investigation suggests Hill, 32, was driving a Ford Bronco east through the driveway of Scooter's Bar and Grill when investigators allege he made a wide right turn and the Bronco ended up straddling Saturn Road's raised median. He continued south and the SUV made contact with a concrete street lamp base in the median, then overturned.
Passenger Alexis Ivey, 23, was ejected during the rollover and suffered serious injuries. Hill was not ejected but also received serious injuries.
Investigators alleged Hill was under the influence of alcohol and collected blood samples for testing.

If clear evidence confirms alcohol was a factor here as police suspected, that may mean the driver will face some stern consequences for his choices. However, it surprises many people to learn that drunk drivers may not be the only ones to hold accountable when they hurt themselves and others. Texas dram shop law says the businesses that sold them drinks may be partly responsible for what so often follows.
Under dram shop law alcohol vendors like bars, restaurants, clubs, and stores can't legally sell or serve more alcohol to obviously intoxicated customers. If they can tell someone's past his limits but keep serving him anyway, do they may be considered liable for any damage he does—even to himself—while under the influence.

It's not for me to say whether the driver's alleged intoxication took place at a bar, but I also can't help but notice one was specifically named in preliminary reports. It seems logical enough to at least find out if the victims had just left that business, and if so how exactly they spent their evening there. If its servers or bartenders knowingly kept refilling the driver's glass despite being legally required to stop, they may need to answer some important questions about why. If their answers could also get some much-needed help for the people hurt on Saturn Road, that's all the more reason to look into it.
