Pickup Crashes into Church, Passenger Injured on Tidwell Rd in Houston, TX
Houston, TX — January 15, 2023, a pickup's passenger was seriously injured when the truck crashed into a church on Tidwell Road in Houston.
Authorities say the incident happened around 7:45 p.m. at Calvary Pentecostal Church of God on Tidwell. Preliminary investigation suggests a pickup truck was involved in a collision with a car near the church. After the impact the car left the scene but the truck crashed into the eastern wall of the church, then hit a gas meter outside a neighbor's house. During the wreck a metal fence post reportedly went through the windshield and pierced the truck passenger's shoulder, causing her critical injuries.
Police reportedly arrested the driver once they arrived.
The investigation continues. No further information is currently available.
An unusual wreck like this is almost guaranteed to stir up some speculation, and unfortunately some theories may not be too charitable toward the driver the ran into the church. However, as always it's best to investigate fully and be sure facts, not guesses, tell the story.
If either or both crashes were actually out of the driver's hands—a mechanical failure in the truck, a blown tire, or a sudden and incapacitating medical issue, for example—then it wouldn't be right to point fingers or suggest he was to blame. Conversely, even finding he was responsible still means learning exactly how and why through further effort.
Whatever the explanation for this ultimately is, there's a lot of people who deserve to know it. The pickup's passenger was grievously harmed, and the churchgoers no doubt have some questions about how exactly they got a new door that evening. I hope authorities will take the time and care needed to get the whole story; anything else depends on what that story is.
