Amanda Watkins Injured in Auto Accident on SH 31 in Navarro County, TX

Navarro County, TX — December 23, 2022, 42-year-old Amanda Watkins was seriously injured in a traffic accident on State Highway 31 in Navarro County.

Authorities say the incident happened around 11:10 p.m. on Highway 31 near Farm to Market Road 667. Preliminary investigation suggests Watkins was driving a Kia Sportage southeast on FM 667 as a Jeep Gladiator was southwest-bound on the highway ahead. Investigators believe Watkins ran a stop sign at the roads' intersection and entered the path of the Jeep, which hit it on its rear-left quarter.

Watkins suffered serious injuries in the collision. The Jeep driver reportedly received minor injuries.

One of the biggest mistakes I see people make after an accident is thinking what they see in preliminary reports is really all there is to know. That's especially true when investigating officers decide to chalk the whole thing up to operator errors after their once-over at the scene: Someone messed up at the wheel, case closed. But what if there's more to it?

I'm not saying a crash has to be more complicated than that, but I've done this long enough to know that things aren't always as straightforward as they're first thought to be. Can drivers make mistakes that lead to crashes? Of course. Can their brakes give out, their tires blow, the roads be wet or uneven, or any number of other things happen as well? Absolutely. That's why it's important to ensure every dot is connected before anyone tries to say what picture they make. An investigation's real purpose should always be to find the whole truth for the people that need and deserve it, so I hope authorities in Navarro County made sure that happened.
