Michael Wilson Injured in Motorcycle Accident on Spur 557 in Terrell, TX

Terrell, TX — December 11, 2022, 53-year-old Michael Wilson was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident on Spur 557 in Kaufman County.

Authorities say the incident happened around 11:10 p.m. on Spur 557 at Las Lomas Parkway. Preliminary investigation suggests Wilson was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle east on the spur when he approached the Las Lomas intersection. Investigators allege he didn't slow down at the crossroads and passed through it, then hit a concrete island on the intersection's southeast corner. After the impact he laid the bike down and they slid further east down the spur before coming to rest.

Wilson suffered serious injuries in the crash.

One of the biggest points I try to make on this blog is the importance of not jumping to premature conclusions about an accident. Motorcycle wrecks tend to receive a lot of that kind of speculation, as a lot of folks out there have a bad habit of lumping all riders together as reckless daredevils. However, I know from representing many bikers and their families that isn't true.

As with any type of motorist there may be a few bad apples, but I've found that many motorcyclists are almost overly cautious because of the dangers posed by other, larger vehicles that don't always share the road appropriately. Police may have their theories about how the rider was hurt in Terrell, but unless they've ruled out every other potential factor—a medical emergency, road hazards, or a hit-and-run vehicle that fled the scene, for example—then I'm not entirely convinced that their suggestions of unsafe operation and possible impairment tell an accurate or complete story.

That's why I encourage folks to avoid hasty conclusions and keep an open mind. The victim deserves the benefit of the doubt and to know his accident was taken seriously and investigated carefully.
